County Association of Realtors Donates to Charities in Time for Holidays
The Santa Clara County Association of Realtors Foundation made a $5,000 donation to four San Jose charities at the beginning of the holiday season. This is the ninth year the foundation has provided help to needy families before Thanksgiving.
On Nov. 14, foundation trustees delivered $3,400 worth of turkey and ham to InnVision in San Jose, Loaves and Fishes on Santa Clara Street, and the Sacred Heart Community Service on First Street in San Jose. They also presented a check of $2,200 to Second Harvest Food Bank.
The foundation’s donation translated into 4,400 hot meals for the hungry at homeless shelters, said Michael Enos of Second Harvest Food Bank.
At Sacred Heart, the foundation’s 148 turkeys gave a Thanksgiving dinner to 1,480 people, said volunteer officer Jane Vitkovich.
The donation and money to buy the turkey and ham came from the foundation’s annual charitable Pumpkin Auction, held Oct. 28.
The association also raised more than $6,000 for its annual holiday luncheon and toy drive held Thursday.
The money raised comes from ticket sales and corporate sponsorship. The association also expects to collect 500 toys for teens and tots from the event. The proceeds and toys will be donated to the Los Bomberos Toy and Food Program managed by firefighters of the San Jose Fire Department. The program offers help to needy families in Santa Clara County in the holiday season.
The luncheon and toy drive have become an established charitable event in the real estate industry. The event raised $5,138 in 2005 and $3,500 in 2004.
