Seaside – On the heels of a 7-7 tie against Cupertino last week, the Sobrato High football team is preparing to face a powerhouse when it travels to Seaside High to take on the Spartans.
Seaside is coming off a 38-3 win over Independence and is the two-time defending Monterey Bay League champions. The Spartans fell to Half Moon Bay 14-6 in the Central Coast Section Small School finals last season.
Michael Avila is an all-purpose threat for Seaside. In the opener he ran for 56 yards on only three carries and caught five passes for 89 yards. Quarterback Ty Powell was also productive, completing 8-of-14 passes for 146 yards and a touchdown.
Four other backs combined with Avila to rack up 153 total rushing yards and coach Dan Brown and the Bulldogs expect to have a tough battle.
