I think it is highly unlikely that if a new library is built in downtown Morgan Hill people will take the train to that library. The first one arrives at 5:15 p.m. Currently Caltrain runs four trains to Morgan Hill on weekdays. The last one departs at 7:18 a.m. There is no train service on the weekend.
We would have to build one incredible library to get people to pay for a train trip, a hotel room and a meal just to visit this library. If they actually want to spend the day at the library they would have to stay over two nights. If they borrow a book they can repeat the experience three weeks later.
There are a lot of employers in Morgan Hill yet Caltrain has no trains into Morgan Hill in the morning, nor out of Morgan Hill in the evening. I doubt that a new library will be a sufficient incentive to get Caltrain to increase the number of trains that serve Morgan Hill.
There are libraries in communities north of Morgan Hill. We should build a library that serves our citizens and not try to build a library that will serve the entire South Bay.
