Morgan Hill – The Sobrato Bulldogs boys basketball team embarks on its inaugural varsity season with the goal of making it into the Central Coast Section playoffs. A goal that head coach Lawrence Crawford believes will be a challenge, but is entirely possible to achieve.
“The CCS playoffs are a stretch goal for us,” said Crawford. “And it is something I believe we can attain. It is a major challenge, but if we can reach that level in our first varsity season it will say a lot about our program. It would be outstanding to say the least.”
The biggest obstacle the Bulldogs will face in achieving their goal will be their inexperience in the post because most of their post players are sophomores. Since Sobrato High doesn’t have a senior class yet, the Bulldogs won’t be as experienced as other teams in the Tri County Athletic League with mostly junior and sophomore players.
Crawford prescribes to the idea that overcoming their inexperience on the court is primarily psychological.
“Everyday we prepare to play teams that are bigger and stronger than we are,” explained Crawford. “If they go into a game mentally convinced that they will match up any team, with the proper preparation they can.”
Sobrato’s team will be anchored by junior guards Marques Crawford and Mubarik Abdullahi. Crawford and Abdullahi bring experience and leadership to the Bulldogs.
“Both are excellent all-around basketball players,” said Crawford. “They both love the game and are in great condition. They are excellent shooters and passers and will be good leaders for this young team. They will be the heart and soul of this team.”
The Bulldogs kick off their season at home against Yerba Buena today at 2:30pm.

Outlook:
Head coach Lawrence Crawford has set the CCS playoffs as a stretch goal for this young Bulldogs team in its first varsity campaign. The biggest challenge Sobrato will face is their inexperience in the post, but according to Crawford everday the team is preparing to face teams that are bigger and stronger than them. If they can overcome the psychological aspect and be convinced they can match up, with proper preparation they will.
