WBC Interim Welterweight World Champion Robert Guerrero celebrates following his unanimous decision victory over former Two-Time Welterweight World Champion Andre Berto on November 24, 2012 at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario.

Gilroy native Robert Guerrero, the interim WBC welterweight champion, was named Fighter of the Year by boxing writer David A. Avila of the Riverside Press-Enterprise on Tuesday.
Guerrero won a 12-round unanimous decision over Selcuk Aydin on July 28 in San Jose to claim the vacant interim WBC welterweight title, then used a 12-round unanimous decision over Andre Berto on Nov. 24 in Ontario, Calif., to retain the title.
“Aydin had promised to break Guerrero’s jaw. The only thing that broke was Aydin’s undefeated streak,” Avila wrote.
