The Live Oak alumni team was a little short on players during Saturday’s matchup against the varsity squad, so they decided to recruit a couple more old goats for defense.

Live Oak soccer players are used to competing against all type of animals in practice with the neighboring school animal housing.

Three goats wonders through the field, and the game wasn’t stopped. Players have seen turkeys in practice this year.

The Live Oak alumni and combination of players drawn from the roster proved to be strong in the early minutes of the game, but the varsity team’s hustle eventually was too much as they walked away with a 4-2 win.

Sophomore phenom Anthony Razouk scored a goal for the alumni team in the first half and then scored a goal for his own team in the second half after a couple one-on-one chances with goalie the goalie.

Defender Andy Cunninham was playing his first game in two weeks after an ankle sprain.

“It’s feeling pretty good,” Cunningham said. “It’s still a little sore on the side. It should be OK by the time we play Hollister.”

The Balers and Acorns will square off in the league opener on Jan. 10 at Hollister.

Christian Rauschnot, who returned to UC Davis Monday when camp opened, made an appearance for the alumni in the second half.

“It was fun, but I am still really out of shape even though I have been practicing with the boys and girls teams,” Rauschnot said.

Hugo Serrano joined his younger brother Cesar on the field. Alex and Travis Bianchi were two of the alumni stars.

“We had to let them have it,” said Travis, who played at Fresno State with Acorn great Dan Oka. “I think it was one of the more fun games.”

“We used to have some of the best teams back then,” said Alex, a 1995 grad who was the oldest player on the field. “We won league every year and pretty much went undefeated.”

Live Oak will have a good shot for success this year.
