Santa Clara County supervisors have passed an ordinance to compensate county employees on active military duty, providing a one-year extension, for a total of two years, of extended salary and benefits for those involved in armed conflict.
Two years ago, the Board adopted an ordinance that changed extended benefits from 180 days to one full year.
The ordinance affects two groups: county employees currently on active military duty and those on military leave on or after March 19, 2002, whose benefits have already run out.
Currently, six county employees are receiving salary augmentation. Six employees have exhausted the one-year salary continuation and are on unpaid military leave.
This change will cost approximately $105,000 this year and $115,000 next fiscal year.
