Police found the body of a man in his 50s off the side of the road in west Morgan Hill Wednesday morning, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s office.

The exact cause of death is under investigation, and authorities do not suspect foul play, according to sheriff’s Sgt. Troy Smith. They think the man had been deceased since Tuesday night or early this morning.

The man’s identity has not been released, as police are still in the process of notifying his family members, Smith said. His age was described as “mid to late ’50s.”

About 7 p.m. Tuesday night police received a call of a missing “at-risk” male adult who suffered from an undisclosed medical condition, Smith said. The man’s wife called in the report.

Early Wednesday morning deputies found the man’s abandoned vehicle on the side of the road near Uvas Road and Oak Glen Avenue, Smith said. The keys were still inside the car, which was unlocked.

More deputies were called to search the area, authorities said. With the assistance of a K-9 search dog, the body was found about 9:20 a.m.

The body was found in a ravine about 50 yards from the abandoned vehicle, which was parked on the side of the road, Smith said. The early morning darkness and heavy brush in the area made the initial search difficult.
