The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors will discuss and vote on placing a proposed county sales and use tax measure on the November ballot during a special meeting at 9 a.m. Tuesday on the 10th floor of the County Government Center, located at 70 W. Hedding St. in San Jose.
Officially coined as the “County of Santa Clara Retail Transactions and Use Tax Ordinance,” the proposed measure entails a possible one-eighth cent or one-quarter cent sales and use tax for Santa Clara County. The Board of Supervisors will vote Tuesday to adopt a resolution to place the measure on the November 2012 ballot.
If approved to go before voters in the fall, the county’s hoped-for sales tax could join several other proposed tax measures.
The Gilroy Unified School District is actively pushing for a joint city-school sales tax; Saint Louise Regional Hospital is exploring a sales tax to help fund a multi-million dollar emergency room; and the City of San Jose is also considering a sales tax measure.
