I love the spring time weather. The gentle, fresh air brings
people outside of their homes, their offices and their
“shells” Haven’t you noticed that people have an easier time of
smiling, saying hello and being enthusiastic when the sun warms
their body and soul? I sometimes feel like a lizard … I don’t
want to get out of my home office until the sun has peeked through
the clouds and the air is no lon
ger chilly.

The first day of spring is March 20. I can’t think of a better way to spend this day than at the Farmers’ Market with its abundance of fresh foods, vegetables, flowers, coffee. This “teaser” weather is scheduled to stay with us until the weekend, so come on down to the Farmers’ Market at Third and Depot between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. and have some fun with friends. For more information call 779-9444.

The Presbyterian Church of San Martin invites you to its annual pancake breakfast on Saturday March 27, from 7-11 a.m. Adults are $6 and children $3. Proceeds from this awesome breakfast benefit its Vacation Bible School. If you have never visited this tiny church on Lincoln Avenue in the heart of San Martin, please do. The building is more than 100 years old, the members warm and friendly and the oak tree in front is picture perfect. For more information call 683 2908.

May 6th is the National Day of Prayer and it will be held at the Crossroads Christian Center’s gym on Wright Avenue from 7-9 a.m. Prayers for our community, state, nation and world will be lifted by community members and representatives of our local churches.

The past cannot be changed, the future is still in our power and prayer creates miracles. You are not a reservoir with a limited amount of resources; you are a channel attached to unlimited divine resources. Come share your resources at this gathering of like hearted people and walk away with a song in your heart. For more information give Wanda a call at 691-8350.

Some people’s lives are cut short, traumatically and tragically. Lucille Houston, a Pulitzer Prize winning, photojournalist for the San Jose Mercury News was one of these people whose time on this earth was not long enough. Community Solutions, the City of Morgan Hill and the San Jose Mercury News will be presenting an exhibition of her work at the Cultural Center from May 17 until July 16. A reception with featured speakers will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, May 21. Domestic violence affects us all.

One of my visions over the last several years has been to offer a training course for those interested in learning about elected or appointed positions in our community. Recently, a candidate school was offered in San Jose and several people are working to tailor a seminar to fit Morgan Hill’s needs. Possible topics are the filing process which needs to be done in July for school board and council positions, effective ways to hone and deliver a message, campaign ethics, fundraising, etc. If you would be interested in attending or contributing your expertise to this venture, please call me at 779-6916. Late May or early June would be the desired time to hold this event. The program will be non-partisan.

Every year I offer my list of 80 skills that kids should have before they start kindergarten. If you would like to receive a copy please email me at ma***************@***oo.com with Skills List in your subject box. I’d be delighted to help prepare your child to become a womb to tomb learner.

In closing, there are four special people I want to send my love to. Rosie Hernandez, you light up the world and we wish you a speedy recovery. Lance Corporal Ethan Salzano, be safe in Iraq and know you are being prayed for constantly. And lastly Tarina and Nicole Campodonia. Tarina, your life also was cut short by violence and you have not been forgotten … Nicole, you are still being lifted in thoughts and prayers.

This month, be the first to give a friendly sign, to nod first, to smile first, speak first and if such a thing is necessary, forgive first. As always I am honored to be part of your life. Namaste.
