Morgan Hill’s 3rd annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life was held May 22-23 at Oakwood Country School. We make our $150,000 goal.
Mission Delivery was a big part of the Relay this year. It is the job of Mission Delivery to inform and educate people in what ever way possible. We provided information about the many different programs American Cancer Society offers and had many volunteers sign up for them.
We are trying to give everyone in Morgan Hill the facts about cancer, support, and treatments. We want our community to recognize the warning signs of cancer and to learn how to perform the different self examinations. We want everyone to be aware of the importance of regular check-ups.
We played many games stressing exercise and diet and we provided several healthy cooking demonstrations. Eating healthy and exercise are the two best/easiest cancer prevention methods available.
Polyp woman showed up at the relay (uninvited) Saturday afternoon, but isn’t that just the way cancer works? You never know when or who it will hit. Fortunately, Carrot Man and Strawberry were there to protect the good people of Morgan Hill, offering everyone five servings of fruits and vegetables a day to ward off colon cancer.
Even though the relay is over we will continue to educate and inform our Morgan Hill community about cancer. The many teams are committed to carrying on the work of cancer prevention throughout the year.
We are still having a cancer education competition; the team individual that educates the most people wins a $75 gift certificate.
The relay was a great success and I would like to thank the local businesses who sponsored the Relay’s Mission Delivery effort.

Also, we are having a follow-up team captains’ meeting is 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 29, at Morgan Hill Holiday Inn Express.
