Mudcats rebound to split with Menlo Park

Local teams hosting league games today
SAN JOSE — The Mount Hamilton Division pennant is slipping away for Sobrato.

On the same afternoon first-place Leland was idle, the Bulldogs fell 2 1/2 games back with a 4-3 letdown at Pioneer on Thursday.

Sobrato and Pioneer are tied for third place in the division with the Mustangs (8-9 overall, 7-6 league) holding a tie-breaker by virtue of head-to-head play.

The Bulldogs can change that today. They will host Pioneer at 3:30 p.m. in their final division-series game before round-robin play begins next week.

Chris Bradley homered, scored twice and batted 2 for 3 Thursday, and freshman Tanner Di Sibio and Ryan Williams collected RBIs for Sobrato (8-11, 7-6).

Live Oak 9, Leigh 1

Rich Martinez pitched a complete game and plated two runs Thursday as the visiting Acorns bolstered their playoff chances against eighth-place Leigh.

Live Oak (10-9, 5-8) earned a season-best fourth straight win and pulled within two games of controlling the Mount Hamilton’s fourth and final playoff invite.

Martinez (3-3) struck out five and walked two, dropping his ERA to 3.65

The Acorns pounded out a dozen hits. Ken Hall batted 2 for 4 with a pair of RBIs, Cody Van Aken doubled, singled, drove in a run and reached base in all four plate appearances, and Ryan Hennings finished 2 for 2 with an RBI.

Michael Schreiber also had two hits for Live Oak, which will host the Longhorns (3-14-1, 3-9-1) at 3:30 p.m. today.
