Did the Nobel Peace Prize committee prematurely honor President
Barack Obama?
THIS WEEK’S QUESTION:

“Did the Nobel Peace Prize committee prematurely honor

President Barack Obama?” Yes: 8 No: 2

? Karen Anderson: “No. It is their choice and they have defended it. Obama has set a collaborative tone in the international community that was previously lacking.”

? Bert Berson: “Yes. And did him no favor with their attempt at honor.”

? Chris Bryant: “This was supposedly for reducing world tension based on his work through February 2009? This likens Obama to a sedative not an active worker for world peace.”

? David Cohen: “Yes, the prize should reward accomplishment not just that he’s not former president George W. Bush.”

? Julian Mancias: “Yes. I think even President Obama would agree that it was a little premature for him to receive this prize.”

? Linda McNulty: “Yes, I do not know what they were thinking.”

? Lisa Pampuch: “Probably, however, the decision is a measure of how much our country had fallen in world opinion under Bush/Cheney; as French President Nicholas Sarkozy said, “The award marks America’s return to the heart of the people of the world,” and as a Twitter user said, “[Obama] saved the world from Sarah Palin.” Neither is insignificant.”

? John Quick: “No. They sent a message about the huge value of willingness to talk and willingness to respect other views of the world. These values were not present in the simpleton politics of the Bush administration. Peace is a bigger possibility when these values are in play.”

? Emily Shem-Tov: “Yes, but I think it is great that he is viewing it as a call to action and it is a strong message urging him to continue the changed tone and vision he’s promised to bring.”

? Steve Staloch: “Yes. It dilutes the prestigious award traditionally recognizing significant achievements, not eloquent speeches or long to-do lists with nothing of consequence yet crossed off.”
