Does Sarah Palin’s resignation as Alaska governor, with 18
months left in her first term, end any chance of her running for
and becoming President?
THIS WEEK’S QUESTION:
“Does Sarah Palin’s resignation as Alaska governor, with 18 months left in her first term, end any chance of her running for and becoming President?” Yes: 3 No: 9
? Karen Anderson: “I think so. It is rare for someone perceived as a quitter to attain higher office, despite her rationale. Harry Truman: ‘If you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen.'”
? Bert Berson: “Yes. At least I hope so!”
? Chris Bryant: “Yes, It makes it very hard to take her seriously as a candidate for anything. Still waiting for the other shoe to drop on the real reason why she quit.”
? David Cohen: “No. If anything, it gives Palin an opportunity to raise her profile among the party faithful.”
? Dennis Kennedy: “Memories are short! Unfortunately, it’s what happens ‘today’ that sways the public opinion, not the mistakes and transgressions of the past.”
? Julian Mancias: “No. But it will certainly have a negative impact on her chances of being elected president, should she decide to run.”
? Linda McNulty: “No, I think Palin will use this time to ‘reinvent’ herself and make a run for the presidency if the climate is appropriate for that.”
? Henry Miller: “No. She had already managed to lose any chance with her speeches, interviews and demeanor while campaigning as John McCain’s running mate.”
? Lisa Pampuch: “It might not preclude her from running, but it precludes her from winning. She’s now a half-term governor from a sparsely populated state who couldn’t withstand the job pressures enough to fulfill her commitment to Alaskans. Set aside her copious other flaws, that alone should disqualify her.”
? John Quick: “I would hope she would run. It’s always good to have a weak candidate on the Republican side. As for Sarah Palin becoming President – the word oxymoron comes to mind – although it might make George W. Bush only the second worst President in our history.”
? Emily Shem-Tov: “Unless she finds something pretty amazing to do with her new free time I think that it pretty much spells the end of her political career.”
? Steve Staloch: “No, but her ‘cut and run’ decision greatly diminishes her chance of being considered a credible candidate.”
