Question of the week: “Should the United States accelerate its withdrawal from Afghanistan?”
- Karen Anderson: “Yes. I think it is being discussed at all levels with the rate being unknown for now. I appreciate Obama’s not rushing to a decision. What a sad situation.”
- Dave Appling: “Not because one NCO sadly went psycho on his fourth combat tour, and certainly not for election-year reasons. And setting public timetables for withdrawal is pure daylight madness, a consistent unforced error. Talk about aiding the enemy!”
- Bert Berson: “No. We have spent billions lining the pockets of Karzai, his brother and their cronies. Somehow we must gather the political will to tell the world that the emperor has no clothes. Then the coalition needs to put in place something that might work. It is the least we can do to retain some self respect.”
- Chris Bryant: “Yes, it has been proven again and again that the military makes a bad police force. Security for the area needs to be quickly turned over to local control.”
- David Cohen: “No. The timetable already planned for is perfectly acceptable.”
- Julian Mancias: “Yes. We should have been out yesterday.”
- Henry Miller: “Yes. Withdrawal should be as fast as military and political safeguards permit. Enough is enough – or, in this case, maybe too much.”
- Jeff Smith: “Yes, we should get out completely, the sooner the better.”
