Advocating gun use is dangerous and irresponsible
Dear Editor,
I thank you for your Opinion page and I have contributed in the past. I believe everyone should be able to express his or her opinion publicly.
I would like to comment and encourage my fellow citizens of Morgan Hill to do the same regarding Mr. Stan Faulwetter’s opinion “Residents need to take positive steps to protect themselves.”
My first comment is that my head is not in the sand and I believe his is up an anatomical part of his body. I also question how Stan voted on the recently defeated Measure G that would have benefited our police department?
As requested, I looked at the Police Blotter in the paper on the day this opinion was published, there were five Incidents: fraud, petty theft, recovered stolen vehicle, stolen vehicle and vandalism. Should these suspects be shot and killed? I think not!
Another of Stan’s comments was “When these violent attacks occurred, if any of those victims had in their possession a legal handgun for protection, Morgan Hill might now have one less kidnapper/sexual predator to worry about.”
What about victims that would be under age, could not afford or simply would not want to carry a fire arm? Pepper spray and self defense are other options but again, I prefer the police option.
My understanding is a 911 cell phone call from the Safeway parking lots (Morgan Hill) would be received at our local police dispatch center with coordinates (longitude and latitude).
With the press coverage and police notifications, a 911 call from a Safeway would bring (how many) officers? I again put my support with them!
Another of Stan’s comments referenced a poll on being less safe. I suggest you do a poll asking: As a resident of Morgan Hill, in an emergency situation would you prefer to use a gun or dial 911?
Thank you.

Ask the residents what they want
Dear Editor,
Has anyone bothered to ask the residents of Morgan Hill what they want? I for one do not want it moved.
There is a nice plan to modify downtown to be pedestrian friendly, this is in opposition to that. We need to support our local businesses, not separate the public from them.
I am sure the Friday night events will suffer if the downtown businesses stop funding it. Why would they continue to do so?
It would be far better for everyone if motor traffic was diverted from Cochrane Avenue to Dunne Avenue along Butterfield Boulevard during Friday evenings and put the music in the center of Monterey for all to hear, see and enjoy.

Keep the music at Second Street
Dear Editor,
Don’t move the series. Most of us like it downtown. I thought that was why they had it downtown, to draw people there!!! It is nice to be able to get a bite to eat then walk over to hear the music.
Please reconsider.

Music series will benefit from move to community center
Dear Editor,
We are very excited about the move of the Friday Night Music Series to the Community and Cultural Center, as this will give the program room to grow with our community, while continuing to be in the heart of downtown Morgan Hill.
This community event, which is now in its 17th year, continues to support local bands, upcoming talent, local businesses and the community of Morgan Hill. None of this will change with the new venue. We will, as always, be working with the downtown restaurants and wonderful stores.
The outdoor venue at the community center has a wonderful stage, great dancing area and a fabulous grassy area, allowing you to enjoy the music under the stars with your friends and family, plus great parking.
We look forward to seeing you at our opening night from 7 to 9 p.m. June 5. Bring your dancing shoes and join the fun.

More than 700 runners attend this year’s AAUW Wildflower Run
Dear Editor,
On behalf of AAUW-Morgan Hill, I would like to thank our many sponsors, donors and hardworking members who contributed so much to the success our event.
Our congratulations to all runners and walkers who came out on a beautiful day to enjoy the healthy exercise and to benefit our scholarship fund. We feel very fortunate to have such wonderful community support.
Thanks to you all.

Music Series should stay in the ‘heart’ of downtown a bit longer
Dear Editor,
If the Chamber wants to do what’s best for the community, they need to keep the businesses alive downtown so we as a community will still have an operating downtown to go to.
Maybe a better thing for the Community Center amphitheater in the summer would be Friday night movies or something? Get something to eat downtown, listen to music and end the night with a movie outdoors. This would create a lot of foot traffic back and forth in the downtown area.
