After making it back to the Central Coast Section playoffs for the first time in three years, the Live Oak baseball team was rewarded with six all-league selections Monday in the Blossom Valley Athletic League’s Santa Teresa Division.
John Forestieri, who finished with a team-high .414 batting average, was named the league’s senior of the year. Zach Riveron, who hit .348 with 12 RBIs, was also rewarded with the sophomore player of the year.
Forestieri was dominant at the plate for the Acorns, leading the team with 18 RBIs and eight doubles. He added one home run as well.
Adrian Garcia and Kyle Quadros were also recognized, as both earned first team honors. Garcia, a senior, hit .406 for the Acorns with seven RBIs. Quadros finished the season as the Acorns top pitcher. He went 6-5 with a 2.45 ERA. He struck out 47 batters in 77 innings.
Ben Nuno and Aaron Armijo both earned second-team honors for Live Oak. Nuno finished the season with a .362 batting average with 11 RBIs and five doubles. Armijo made an impact both at the plate and on the mound.
With a bat in his hands, Armijo hit .297 with a team-leading four home runs. On the mound, he threw 58 innings and finished with a 3.02 ERA.
Sobrato, which struggled to an 8-19 record, earned two all-league nominations in the BVAL’s Mount Hamilton Division.
Infielder Andrew Bueno earned the Bulldogs lone first-team selection. The senior hit .299 with six RBIs and one double. On the mound, Bueno threw 15.1 innings and ended the season with a 3.20 ERA.
Tanner Disibio earned Sobrato’s second-team nomination after finishing the season as the Bulldogs’ No. 1 pitcher. Disibio was strong on the mound for the Bulldogs, finishing with a 2.36 ERA in 62.1 innings. He led the team with 58 strikeouts.
Softball
After both Live Oak and Sobrato missed the postseason, the Acorns were rewarded with two BVAL Mount Hamilton all-league selections and the Bulldogs earned one.
Live Oak’s Rachel Ditta earned the only first-team selection. She finished the season as the Acorns No. 1 pitcher. She went 6-6 with a 4.40 ERA. At the plate, though, is where she made her biggest impact.
Ditta hit .508 with three RBIs. She finished with 13 stolen bases.
Teammate Tiffany Moore, who was the team’s starting catcher, was also rewarded for her strong play, hitting .597 with 29 RBIs and four home runs. She accounted for nearly half of Acorns’ scored runs.
For Sobrato, No. 1 starting pitcher Sammi Torres was rewarded for her strong season. The sophomore finished the season 9-11 with a 2.57 ERA. At the plate, Torres hit .419 with two home runs and 20 RBIs.
Boys Volleyball
Sobrato was well represented in the BVAL’s Santa Teresa Division boys volleyball All League Team, taking eight spots, including Senior of the Year and Coaches of the Year. Sobrato finished the season with a share of the Santa Teresa Division title with Branham, going 9-1 in league and 13-9 overall. Live Oak had two players receive nods.
Sobrato’s Scott Mercado was named Senior of the Year with Drew Mammen receiving Co-Junior of the Year honors. Mammen shared the honors with James Lick’s Marco Zepeda. Bulldogs’ helmsmen Todd Anderson and Mike Nydam were named Coaches of the Year.
Receiving first-team honors were senior Logan Mosher and sophomore Andre Vigano of Sobrato and junior Graham Chok of Live Oak. On the second-team were senior Darren McElvy and sophomore Marcus Valenzuela of Sobrato and Ariel Salvador of Live Oak.
