Live Oak boys basketball team drops home game to Willow Glen
Throughout the regular season, the Live Oak girls basketball has shown the ability to play to the level of the competition despite a 1-8 record.
However, it is the Acrons’ inability to finish games that has kept them from experiencing victory in the Blossom Valley Athletic League Santa Teresa Division.
Such was the case Tuesday when Live Oak fell to Willow Glen, 54-45, in San Jose. The Rams, who snapped a three-game losing streak, are 6-13 overall, 4-5 in BVAL.
While Live Oak (3-17, 1-8) is currently at the bottom of the standings, it has not lost a game in league play by more then 13 points and has been within striking distance in the fourth quarter of almost every one of its BVAL games.
“They had 5 threes in the 2nd quarter and into half down 16 and were down 20 after three quarters. We came back and cut it close, we had some opportunities but we weren’t able to pull it out,” said coach Jeff Perkins.
Megan Gulla led the Acorns with 19 points in one of her best games this season. Sarah Goodere and Asfhawn Chakamian each had eight points. Kate Lowe had an outstanding performance in the paint defensively with 19 rebounds and four blocks.
The Acorns’ next opponent is against Prospect in Saratoga.
Live Oak Boys
After a four-point loss at home to Overfelt the game before, the Live Oak boys basketball team was hoping to carry some optimism into the next home game.
Live Oak, which had showed significant improvement against Overfelt after losing by 29 in the first meeting, almost pulled out a big win that would have given the Acorns some much needed confidence heading into their next home game against Willow Glen, which currently sits atop the Blossom Valley Athletic League Santa Teresa Division standings.
It wasn’t to be as the Rams were dominant in a 58-26 win. With the loss, the Acorns are 3-17 overall and 2-7 in league. Willow Glen, which has won eight straight, is 16-5 overall, 8-1 in the league.
Live Oak’s hits the road tonight against a Branham team it beat earlier in the year at home, 37-33.
