Morgan Hill – Coming off its most disappointing performance of the season, the Live Oak High football team has another tough one ahead when it travels to face unbeaten Leigh on Saturday.

The game was originally scheduled for tonight at Leigh, but has been moved to Saturday at Westmont High due to delays in the construction of Leigh’s new field. The game times of 7pm for the varsity game and 4:30pm for the junior varsity game remain the same.

The Longhorns enter the game 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the Blossom Valley Athletic League Mount Hamilton Division and on the heels of a come-from-behind 28-23 win over Pioneer in the league opener.

Leigh trailed 14-0 in the first quarter before outscoring the Mustangs 28-9 the rest of the way. Quarterback Doug Webster completed 19 of 28 passes for 287 yards and a touchdown and running back Daniel Franke added 103 yards rushing and a touchdown.

“They’re big, they’re strong, they’re fast,” Live Oak coach Rick Booth said of the Longhorns after last week’s 24-6 loss to Piedmont Hills.

Webster, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound senior, leads the way for Leigh in an offense that is very balanced. Webster has 668 yards passing on the season with seven touchdowns and two interceptions. He’s averaged 18.5 yards per completion while also running the ball 21 times for 284 yards and two scores.

Franke has provided that balance to the passing game by averaging more than 10 yards per carry while racking up 477 yards and four touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Chris Balcom-Miller has been Webster’s favorite target with 14 receptions for 365 yards and four touchdowns. Dylan August, a pounding 6-3, 245-pound senior running back, has caught eight balls for 103 yards and two touchdowns while running the ball 38 times for 166 yards and four scores.

The Acorns feel they’ll be more than motivated to deliver a strong performance after the offense mustered up only 137 total yards in last week’s loss.

“A loss is just motivation for the next game,” said senior running back Kevin Abbott, who has 531 rushing yards this season and has scored sevens touchdowns this season.
