The Live Oak roller hockey team is off to a great start.
Playing with a whole new team this year, the Acorns beat Mountain View 12-5 last Saturday to open the season with a win.
On Friday, Live Oak played Del Mar in its second game and came through with a 10-8 win.
First time in the net for the Acorns is junior goalie Kyle Rosenzweig. He made several key saves and is proving to be a valuable asset to the team.
Starting things off on offense with the first goal against Del Mar was senior Brian Costello, who is in his fourth year on the team. He contributed three more goals with assists from seniors Scott Alexander and Kyle Dutra, also representing Live Oak for its fourth year. Dutra also added five goals to the scoreboard.
Slamming in the final goal of the game was freshman Christian Simonsen, who is new to the team this year and scored off an assist from Costello.
Key contributions to the win also came from senior Conner Williamson, another fourth-year player, and senior Tyler Damron, who is in his second year. Juniors Michael and Kyle Widergren, both in their second year, and junior newcomer Ryan Listol also played well for Live Oak.
After finishing last year in a top division, the Acorns are not yet ranked this season, but are eager to build the team to that level again.
People are welcome to attend games on Friday nights at Rollin Ice. A schedule is available at www.rollinice.com.
