At halftime, the Live Oak/Gilroy boys soccer match appeared to be just like some of the classic games the teams have played. But it got ugly in the second half.

Gilroy (8-5-3, 3-1-1 TCAL) struck first less than seven minutes in the the game on a goal by Horacio Arteaga.

But 26 minutes into the game, Live Oak (11-1-4, 5-0 TCAL) knotted the score at 1-1. Anthony Razouk took a hard kick at the Gilroy goalie. He dived and knocked it away, but Hussein Abdullahi was there to put it in.

The Acorns put in what proved to be the winning goal with about 10 minutes left in the game. Cesar Serrano had a free kick from about 30 yards out, and Sergio Avila headed the ball into the goal.

Gilroy took about 10 yellow cards in the game, one on coach Albert Marques. The Mustangs also took two red cards on Arteaga and Jorge Plata.

Marques eventually went to the officials and requested the game to be called so he would have players left for the next game.

Several of the fans for both sides jumped over the fence around the Gilroy High field and started arguing with the short handed referees. There were just two of them for the game.
