Morgan Hill experienced a jump in permitted housing units in 2018, and 2019 is shaping up to continue that trend.

According to Morgan Hill’s Housing Element Annual Progress Report, which every jurisdiction is required to submit annually to the California Department of Housing and Community Development, the city approved 1,894 new housing units from 2015 to 2018.

So far in 2019, planners at City Hall have approved 44 single-family homes, including 26 in June alone, as well as 27 condos, according to building permits issued.

Among those permits are for Hencken Oaks, a 14-unit single-family project on East Dunne Avenue between Monterey Road and Del Monte Avenue. The city council approved the project’s map in 2018.

According to U.S. Census Bureau estimates, Morgan Hill’s population stood at 45,135 as of 2018, a 19 percent increase from 2010.
