Morgan Hill is home to more than 100 manufacturing businesses that specialize in everything from bike frames, to medical devices and even barbecue pits.

The public had the chance to take a behind-the-scenes look at three of these companies during Manufacturing Day on Oct. 3.

Participating in the tour were Creative Manufacturing Solutions, Lin Engineering and Toray Advanced Composites. A discussion featuring panelists from Sun Basket and Toray Advanced Composites began the day.

Creative Manufacturing Solutions, located on Sutter Boulevard in the northern end of Morgan Hill, operates out of a 50,000-square-foot facility. The sheet metal manufacturer has a lengthy list of well-known customers in the tech world, including Tesla, Facebook and Jabil.

CMS also manufactures products for the medical, aerospace, agriculture and other industries. During the tour on Oct. 3, which included students from Ann Sobrato High School, workers were inspecting the quality of two large aluminum 3D printer frames that were made for Carbon, a Redwood City-based digital manufacturing company.

Tim Herlihy founded Creative Manufacturing Solutions in 2006 after a 20-year career in the sheet metal manufacturing industry. The company, originally located in Santa Clara, moved to Morgan Hill about three years ago.

Lin Engineering, located on Vineyard Boulevard, designs and manufactures an assortment of standard and custom step motors, linear actuators, drivers and controllers.

Toray Advanced Composites on Sutter Boulevard manufactures thermoset and thermoplastic composite materials for commercial, general aviation, military and unmanned aircraft.
