A group of teenagers gathered early in the morning on Aug. 26.
They were seen wearing colors that distinguished the group from
from those around them. At exactly 7:45 the suspects moved from
East Dunne, to Hill and then on to East Main. The vehicles were
tagged with writing all over: the windows, the mirrors and on some,
the entire cars themselves. The passengers and drivers were blaring
music, shouting to cars and onlookers while honking their horns
profusely. When arriving in Live Oak
’s parking lot the group came onto Campus causing a major
disruption. The students were shouting,”Seniors, 2004 Baby!”

Yes indeed it is that time of year again. Live Oak started with a bang thanks to a class of spirited students. Senior students were very visible and at certain tables it was a sea of emerald and gold. Being a Senior myself I was very excited with the turnout. Instead of being the first day of school that ended the precious days of sleeping till noon, going to the beach and staying up till 3 am watching MTV; it was a day that marked the beginning to a wonderful school year,

I thought that this would be an important event to share because it seems as though the negative aspect of Live Oak is the only opinion being voiced about our town’s high school. Yes, people have made remarks that Live Oak is old, class sizes are too big, the clocks don’t work half the time, and that most of the desks are older than the students . But I don’t think any of that really defines Live Oak.

What defines Live Oak are the people inside it. The surroundings don’t make the school, the students do. The students that called up every member of the incoming sophomores just to invite them to their orientation. The students that are willing to paint their cars on their last day of summer, just to show the world how proud they are of their school.

On my first day of school sophomore year my math teacher, Mrs.Tomasine Stewart, told our class that, “It doesn’t matter what your given in life, it is what you do with it that makes all the difference.” I truly believe that this year and hopefully many years forward, Live Oak will become a better place, because the students will make it that way. And that will make all the difference.
