PG
&
amp;E joins with Johnson Lumber and Longs Drugs
Two local business are teaming up with PG&E to help Morgan Hill residents save money and power.
Longs Drugs on E. Dunne Avenue and Johnson Lumber Company on Tenant Avenue will offer discounts on certain products rated by PG&E as energy efficient.
With the fall season approaching, shorter days and longer nights, more lights are illuminating the night sky. With millions of lights switching on, PG&E is promoting saving money and energy by announcing a five million dollar energy efficient lighting rebate promotion.
For the next three weeks, radio advertisements by the state’s “Flex Your Power” campaign will air throughout the state promoting Energy Star-labeled compact fluorescent lamps.
Longs and Johnson Lumber will offer product discounts on the following Energy Star lighting equipment: compact fluorescent lamps, torchiere lamps, indoor/outdoor fixtures and ceiling fan w/light kits.
The Energy Star Lighting Product incentive campaign is designed to encourage PG&E customers to continue conservation by purchasing energy efficient products. In addition to the discounts, some retailers will be offering specials and sales on the qualifying products during the campaign. This year, retailers in California are poised to sell nearly 2.5 million compact fluorescent lamps.
Last year, PG&E customers purchased more than seven million compact fluorescent lamps, more than were sold in the United States in the year 2000.
According to PG&E, compact fluorescent lamps are perhaps the most economical and energy efficient product on the market today. They use approximately one-fourth the energy of an equivalent incandescent light bulb and save a consumer approximately 75 percent of energy costs for that one bulb.
One 100-watt light bulb cost $18.98 per year to operate four hours each day, while one 25 watt Compact Fluorescent Lamp costs $4.75 per year to operate for the same time period. Therefore, the savings for one year of operation of a CFL is $14.23. The annual savings more than pay for the initial investment of the bulb and with the $2 product discount, the initial investment is even lower. Over the life of the CFL – 6 years – the $14.23 annual savings translates into $85.83.
