A spill of raw sewage escaped from the city’s Sewage Lift Station B in Holiday Lake Estates at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and made its way down a concrete V ditch, stopping 100-feet from the edge of Anderson reservoir.

The lake, which is part of the area’s drinking water system, would have been compromised had the spill reached the water’s edge, said Jim Ashcraft, public works director.

The water level in the reservoir is extremely low at this time of the year.

The residential area is in the eastern hills of Morgan Hill.

The 25-year-old lift station near Manzanita Court is being renovated and it was a new telemetry system that failed, allowing between 700 and 800 gallons of sewage to spill.

“Everything is okay now and we hope to keep it that way,” Ashcraft said.

At one point, Ashcraft said, the Santa Clara Valley Water District was about to move water from Anderson elsewhere in the county. Instead, fearing possible problems, Calero Reservoir water was taken instead.
