The Morgan Hill Palomino Athletics ended their season on Monday night after giving up a grand slam in the seventh inning to the Pittsburgh Indians.
John Kirkish pitched the complete game. Going into the final inning, the Palominos were tied at 2-2.
It looked like Kirkish was going to send the game into extra innings. But with two outs, Pittsburgh had other ideas. A pair of errors and a hit batter set up the grand slam.
Kyle Bennett had an RBI for the Athletics, and the other Morgan Hill run scored on an error.
“It is just a bonus because we didn’t expect to be here,” said manager Roy Jackson.
Morgan Hill, which finished the season with a 10-14-1 overall record, lost 6-2 in its first game against Blossom Valley.
Chis McKim gave up some early runs. He hit the first two batters of the game, and they both came around to score.
Morgan Hill kept crawling back into it but couldn’t quite catch up.
Morgan Hill was able to pull out a 14-12 win over the San Jose PAL White Sox despite committing several errors.
Bennett pitched well for the Athletics. Russell Laubach went 3-for-4 four four RBIs. Dave Newton had a double and pitched the final inning, striking out two. Scott Moquin shut down the White Sox for more than two innings.
Kyle Yamashita had a couple RBIs on a base hits. Chris Lafavre, McKim and Kirkish all had an RBIs.
