A 14-year-old Morgan Hill boy escaped serious injury Tuesday morning when he was struck by a pickup while attempting to cross Monterey Road at Central Avenue.

The boy, whose name is being withheld because of his age, is a student at Britton Middle School and was in the crosswalk.

The boy received bruises, lacerations and scrapes, but no broken bones as originally feared.

Preliminary police investigation indicates the student was crossing in the crosswalk, with other cars stopped for him to cross, when an oncoming pickup, driven by a 17-year-old female Morgan Hill resident, struck him. The name of the driver is also being withheld. She was driving with a provisional license.

The boy was flown by helicopter to a local hospital where he was kept overnight for observation.

Police said several off-duty medical personnel stopped at the scene to render aid until paramedics and other emergency workers arrived.

Anyone with information about this collision is asked to call the police department at 408-779-2101 and ask for Cpl. Jeery Neumayer. The investigation is on-going.
