Taking inspiration from the new community and cultural center, the City of Morgan Hill and Morgan Hill Community Foundation will take over Tuesday with a two-pronged effort to help nonprofits and provide an evening of arts for everyone else.

The Evening of Arts is totally free, with a program so varied that virtually everyone in town will find something to love.

In an unusual format, the audience will move from the outdoor amphitheater to the indoor Hiram Morgan Hill Room, following performances and displays, rather like moving class in high school.

The three-hour, vibrant and diverse presentation of visual and performing arts will showcase artists Diem Jones and Tony Khalife, Chinese Performing Arts of America, Oriki Theater, Rico and Rebecca Stover of the South Bay Guitar Society and a San Jose Jazz Society quartet. Several selected visual artists from the Morgan Hill area including wood alchemist, Don Jensen, will also show off their work.

Earlier in the day, Arts Council Silicon Valley and Community Foundation Silicon Valley will present a workshop on their programs and how to apply for them, giving South County nonprofits and artists help in securing scarce funding, 10 a.m.-noon.

“The Conference is a critical tool to enable the Foundation in achieving its vision,” said Dave Reisenauer, Morgan Hill Community Foundation president “The first step in making a positive impact on our Community is identifying specific areas of need and gaps in existing services. We hope to make the Conference an annual event, in order to assess and respond to changing needs within our service area.”

Registration and light refreshments will be from 9:30-10 a.m. There is no cost but a donation of $7 is requested for those wishing to eat lunch. RSVP by calling 778-6409.

Art enthusiasts will be able to purchase much of the visual work. Please bring a coat or sweater since October evenings tend to cool off quickly.

Evening of the Arts: Tuesday, Oct. 21, 5-8 p.m. at the community center 17000 Monterey Road at East Dunne Avenue. Entertainment and refreshments are free to the public.
