Due to the condition of the football field, the Acorns are
forced to up root their game against Alisal. Friday
’s game has been moved to Gilroy and will be played
Saturday.
Live Oak is coming into the game with four straight losses to start the season. The team is on an 18-game winless streak.
The Acorns had a good chance to break it last week at North County, but the Condors rallied in the fourth quarter to win 14-12.
Alisal is 1-3 after losing a tight 31-30 game last week against North Salinas. But the game before, the Trojans defeated Soledad 48-0.
“They have a lot speed,” said Live Oak coach Glen Webb. “They had a couple of breakaway runs against North Salinas. They impress me with their discipline. It seems they are in real good shape.”
Alisal will have two linebackers and a quarterback who all have speed. Webb says the key to the game will be containing them to the sidelines.
Webb says the team is continually improving as the weeks go on. He would, however, like to see a win to boost the spirits of the players.
“Winning is not the only thing, but getting your share helps,” Webb said. “The kids have continued to work hard and have a good attitude. Naturally they’re frustrated at times, but this is how we grow.”
The Acorns are a little banged up coming into the game Live Oak will be missing tight end Zach Freitas, who broke his hand against North County last week. Wide receiver Adam Reza will be out with a swollen ankle he sustained in the game. Sean Standridge is out with a separated shoulder.
Webb expects running back Daniel Salinas, who scored both touchdowns last week, to be ready to go despite reinjuring his ankle in last week’s game.
