The second annual Comprehensive Health in Early Care and Education Conference will provide up-to-date information on preventive health practices as well as access to local community resources for early childhood educators and caregivers, including parents, in Santa Clara County.

This year’s event will be held at Mission College on Saturday, Nov. 8, from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Registrations for the conference are being accepted until Thursday, Nov. 6.

The conference will feature 18 workshops, in English and Spanish, on topics ranging from caring for children with mild illness and health screenings to behavior management and playground safety. All workshop presenters were carefully selected based on expertise in their chosen fields and their local accessibility. The conference will also include a substantial local resource/vendor fair complete with an on-site masseuse, and a keynote address by Sharla Green-Kibel local infant, preschool, and family mental health expert, titled Replenishing Caregivers Within the Web of Relationships.

The conference is a joint effort between the Santa Clara County Child Care Health Consortium, Santa Clara Public Health Department, City of San José Office on Early Care and Education, Institute for Early Childhood Professional Development, Mission College Child Development Department and Community Family Services. The groups work to raise awareness and support for the promotion of health and well being in all early care and, education settings and for the wide circle of individuals involved in raising young children.

The cost of the conference is $30 and includes a certificate of Participation documenting seven hours of professional growth that can be used to meet the Santa Clara County CARES stipend eligibility and/or the Child Development Permit requirements for the State of California.

For details, brochure and/or registration form, call Judy Blanding, Child Care Health Consultant at the Santa Clara Public Health Department, 494-7813 or Dawn Perry, Director of Community Family Services, 275-0810.
