where she was awaiting a liver transplant.
Kathyrn “Katy” Mary Tamura died Feb. 13, 2003, at Stanford Hospital where she was awaiting a liver transplant.

Born in 1960 in San Francisco, Tamura attended Valley Christian High School and graduated from Azusa Pacific University. She was a beloved teacher in the community – at Valley Christian Academy, Pacific West Christian Academy and Morgan Hill Country School – for 20 years.

Katy was a wife, mother, teacher and dear friend. She had a love of people, especially children, which made everyone in her presence feel special. Katy will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her and loved her.

She is survived by her loving husband, Irving; children Kiersten and Parker; stepchildren Jason and Ronnie; parents Ronald and Virginia Lyson; sister Betsy; brothers Ben and Joseph and Mark. She also is survived by her life long friend Tammy Vickroy.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, at South Valley Community Church, 8095 Kelton Drive, Gilroy.

After the service a barbecue will take place in the auditorium at Morgan Hill Country School, 104 John Wilson Way, off Monterey Road, in Morgan Hill.

Those who wish are invited to take a side dish or dessert, to add to the barbecue.

Also, in honor of Katy’s personal “trademark” those who wish are asked to slip a number two pencil behind their right ear to honor Katy’s contribution to the community and her friends.

A trust fund has been established at Wells Fargo Bank, 17590 S. Monterey Road, Morgan Hill, 95037 in the names of Kiersten and Parker Tamura.
