Despite its most successful season in recent memory, including a trip to the Northern California playoffs, the Live Oak High girls volleyball team had no first team all-Tric-County Athletic League selections and just one second-team pick.
Live Oak junior standout Juliette Bowers was selected to the all-TCAL second team, while junior Tivan Catrett earned honorable mention and senior Justine Pingue earned a sportsmanship award.
The reason for the snub, according to Live Oak coach Laura Coleman, was two-fold.
First, the team was judged on its regular season performance, during which it finished fourth in league with a record under .500, and not on its playoff exploits.
Second, Coleman ack-nowledged that she missed a key meeting, at which the all-league performers were selected, claiming that she was not informed of the meeting date or time.
As a result, her team was left with just the one second-team selection and one honorable mention pick.
At the Live Oak team banquet, Bowers was named team MVP and Pingue won the Coach’s Award.
