Morgan Hill City Hall will be closed for its annual
end-of-the-year furlough from Wednesday, Dec. 24, through Friday,
Jan. 2. City offices will reopen on Monday, Jan. 5.

City services not critical to public health and safety, mandated by law or required under existing contracts will be suspended during the furlough.
Over at the Morgan Hill School District, the last day of school before winter break for students will be Dec. 19. They will return to classrooms on Jan. 5. During the winter break, the District Office will be closed, and district employees will not be working.
Dec. 24, 25 and Jan. 1 are paid holidays for school district employees; the other days will be furlough days for classified employees who had hours reduced as a result of budget cuts or vacation days.
No Morgan Hill city services will be provided during the furlough although key executive staff members will be available by cell phone in case of an emergency.
The Community and Cultural Center will be open for reserved events during the furlough but no classes will be held.
Calls to utility billing for sewer and water start-ups or turn-offs that are urgent and for emergency utility service requests will receive the following information on our voice mail message:
“If it is urgent that your water service start or stop on Dec. 26, Dec. 29, 30 or 31 or on Jan. 2, please leave the following information after the beep and a Public Works representative will respond to turn on or turn off the water. Messages left for turn-ons and turn-offs before 2 p.m. will be completed on the day of the call, while messages left after 2 p.m. will be completed the following business day.
“Please leave your name and address where you are requesting service, the day you want service started or stopped, and a daytime telephone number where you can be reached. Please speak slowly and clearly and spell all pertinent information. For emergency service after hours, or on Dec. 24, 25, 27, 28 and Jan. 1, please contact the Police Department at 779-2101.”
Limited building inspection services will be available during the furlough. Inspections can be arranged by calling 776-9108.
No services will be provided in Finance, Planning, Business Assistance and Housing Services and Human Resources during the furlough.
Both fire department stations will be staffed as usual except for fire administration.
The Santa Clara County Fire Department main office will be closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. The main office telephone number for Santa Clara County Fire is 378-4010. If you have an emergency, call 911.
The Morgan Hill Police Department will be open during the furlough. If you have an emergency, call 911. Otherwise, please call the Police Department during their normal business hours. The MHPD business office will be closed to the public on Dec. 24 and 25 and on Jan. 1.
To continue the administration of city and Redevelopment Agency contracts, limited public works inspections will be available during the furlough. Mandated services (those required by law and to meet health and safety regulations) will be provided during the furlough. Only some regularly scheduled operations and maintenance will be available during the furlough. Limited engineering, utility and maintenance crews will be working during the furlough.
Most city workers during the furlough period are on paid vacation status.
