NEW RESTAURANT OPENING SOON?

“When will the construction of the El Toro Brewery on the corner of Monterey Road and Main Street be finished and the place finally open?”

RED PHONE

The El Toro Brewing Company Brewpub, as the name is advertised outside the building, has been under construction since October 2005. Owner Geno Acevedo tells the Red Phone that he really doesn’t know when the official grand opening will occur, but he hopes to beat the Morgan Hill bowling alley to the punch.

The Brewpub will have two lounges. The one on the main floor will be called the Poppy Jasper Lounge and features a beautiful bar with a large expanse of poppy jasper serving as the bartop. The other lounge on the second floor overlooks the restaurant and bar.

The actual brewing of El Toro beer will continue at the brewing company that Acevedo started in 1994 at 17370 Hill Road in Morgan Hill. The brewery yields more than 4,000 barrels every year for those who appreciate handcrafted drafts, lagers and suds. Cheers!

BAD NEIGHBOR

“My neighbor has an old Ford Taurus in his driveway that hasn’t been moved for a very, very long time. The tags are expired, and the car has four flat tires and has become a major eyesore for the neighborhood. How do I go about getting this car moved?”

RED PHONE

Getting these situations solved obviously begins with a talk with the offending neighbor. Sometimes this works out. Unfortunately, sometimes it doesn’t make any impact whatsoever.

On the legal side, all vehicles are required to either carry valid registration papers and current-year license plate tags or have a planned non-operation order (non-op) issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles. Chances are your neighbor has neither of these. If this is the case, then the issue becomes one of code enforcement and you could place a call to the code enforcement officer for the City of Morgan Hill at 779-7241 and advise him of the situation.

GOOD NEIGHBOR

“I wanted to call just to share a story. My son who attends Sobrato High School got stranded near the school the other morning when his car stalled. He called me, and on my way to the school, I received another call. This one was from Serena Montoya, a Sobrato volunteer who lives in Prunedale. She had recognized my son’s car and had called to ask me if she could help in any way.

“It is so refreshing to know that people are out there who are willing to lend a hand when you need it.”
