Morgan Hill – The Music Tree, Morgan Hill’s local music store, and a mainstay of Morgan Hill since 1974, recently changed ownership.

In March, local residents Jeff Nunes and Darin Dixon partnered to purchase The Music Tree. Under the new ownership, The Music Tree is focused on being a community center for all of the South Bay’s music needs.

In addition to offering a wide selection of musical instruments, The Music Tree specializes in band instrument rentals and lessons for most instruments. To add to the music lessons available through The Music Tree, Dixon and Nunes recently purchased Susanne’s Music School, also located in downtown Morgan Hill. The Music Tree now offers early childhood music instruction and group lessons for many instruments.

The Music Tree was purchased from longtime Morgan Hill resident Ellie Van Dyke, who had owned the store since 1981. The new owners have made some changes to the store including remodeling the inside that includes a teachers’/parents’ lounge, and an indoor performance stage which has already hosted several live music performances. In addition to its full service rental department, and instrument repairs, the new owners have involved the store in various community activities including sponsoring sound stages for both the Friday Night Music Series and the upcoming Taste of Morgan Hill. The Music Tree also recently hosted the first ever South Bay Battle of The Teenage Bands.

The Music Tree provides a level of service, and advice, catering to the beginner and intermediate musicians, as well as the parents of many young musicians in Morgan Hill. Located at 17470 Monterey Road, in the Downtown Mall, The Music Tree is open six days a week, Monday through Thursday, 10am-7pm and Friday through Saturday, 10am-6pm.
