Caltrain Memorial Day Schedule

Caltrain will operate on a Sunday schedule for Memorial Day, Monday, May 29.

The rail line will operate 28 trains between San Francisco and San Jose. Train service will not operate south of the San Jose Diridon Caltrain Station, but a shuttle bus will be available between the Tamien and Diridon stations.

Nominations Sought for Transit Awards 

Nominate your favorite transit operator or an innovative transportation program for an award. The Metropolitan Transportation Commission has extended the deadline for nominations for its 2006 Transportation Awards Program to Monday, June 12. The biennial “Excellence in Motion” awards program honors exceptionala projects, organizations and individuals who strive to make travel around the Bay Area a little easier.

Categories for the awards include those who have made extraordinary accomplishments in the field of community service, volunteerism, advocacy, leadership or minority affairs; efforts that have resulted in significant improvement in transportation services for the elderly or persons with disabilities; a bus driver, train operator or other transportation employee who goes beyond the call of duty; long-term, quality leadership in the transportation profession; and a state or federal legislator whose work has had a positive effect on transportation.

A Grand Award and Awards of Merit will also be given to worthy organizations, persons or projects, regardless of their specific transportation focus.

Sha-Boom at “Let’s Go to the Hop II”

The Morgan Hill Community Center will rock ‘n’ roll Friday, June 2, with the music of Sha-Boom. The Rotary Club of Morgan Hill and co-presenter Johnson Lumber/Ace Hardware are holding their second sock hop, “Let’s Go to the Hop II” from 6pm to 11pm. The event will feature music from be-bop to the Beach Boys to the Beatles.

There will be lots of contests, vintage hot rods, a tri-tip and chicken dinner, raffle prizes, a silent auction, and, of course, entertainment.

Ken Hulick, Rotarian and chairman of the event said, “All of the funds the Rotary Club raises from this event will be used right here in our community. And, for a ticketprice of $50 in advance, I don’t think you can find a better deal for an evening of food, fun and entertainment.”
