Tanner DiSibio struck out six in a three-hit shutout to lead Sobrato past second-place Santa Teresa 2-0 Wednesday in a big road win for the Bulldogs.
Sobrato remained less than a game out of the fourth and final playoff spot in the Mount Hamilton Division at 5-8 in league and 7-11 overall.
DiSibio (5-2) allowed zero walks in picking up his fifth straight victory. The junior’s only support came from Conor Havstad and Casey Conforti, who both drove home Eric Guill-Perez while batting 2 for 4. Guil-Perez went 3 for 4 with a double, and Havstad stole two bases.
That was all Sobrato needed for its fourth win in six games.
Santa Teresa Moved to 10-6 and 7-6.
- Del Mar scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Live Oak 7-6 Wednesday, denying the Acorns a share of second place in the Santa Teresa Division.
Live Oak built a 6-4 lead with the help of three RBIs from Matt Bergantz and two from Adrian Garcia. But the Dons rallied for their first league win in almost a month.
Acorns starter Mitch Hickey went 6 1/3 innings, striking out four and allowing five earned runs on six hits and five walks. John Forestieri went 2 for 3 with a double, upping the junior’s league-best batting average to .469, and Aaron Armijo added two hits for Live Oak (8-10, 5-8).
Track and field
Sobrato athletes are entered in six varsity events for Friday’s Top 8 Invitational, a midseason showcase of the elite talent in the CCS.
Starting at 3 p.m. at San Jose City College, Sobrato will be represented by Ryan Corvese (3,200 meters), Thomas Yath (400 meters) and Jessica Reid (400, 200 meters). The Bulldogs will also compete in the girls 4×100- and 4×400-meter relays.
Live Oak athletes are entered in several frosh/soph boys events, including Kalum Bergstrom (1,600 meters, high jump), James Gabbard (800 meters, triple jump) and Afari La-Anyane (65-, and 300-meter hurdles).
Live Oak is slated for the 4×400 relay, and is listed as an alternate in the 4×100 relay.
