“Dear Red Phone, What’s up with the lawn between the library and City Hall? It’s dying. Didn’t they put any sprinklers in after the expense of putting new sod in? Thanks.”
Dear Water It Wanda, Red Phone checked in with Anthony Eulo, program administrator of the Community Services Department at the City of Morgan Hill to help with this question.
“Thank you for writing about the landscaping at the Civic Center. We too were distressed to see the turf turning brown in the central area of the plaza. The City notified the landscape contractor about the problem who confirmed that the irrigation clock was properly set and that the system did not have leaks that prevented it from operating properly.
“After several weeks of trouble, it was determined that there was an intermittent electrical short in the wires specifically serving that particular valve. This wiring has been fixed and we hope that the problem has been completely solved. City staff will continue to monitor the lawn and work with the contractor if additional problems are discovered. To date, the lawn is greening up nicely.”
Thanks for your concerns. We checked out the lawn recently and it is looking much more green and alive. Hope that helps, good caller.
