“Red Phone, I was wondering if it was legal for food trucks to release, what I am presuming is water, all over the road? There is a food truck that drives down Bolsa Road in the mornings and leaves a long trail of liquid all over the road. On these cold mornings, it starts to freeze and gets a little dangerous.”
Red Phone:Dear Ice Road Trucker, If the vehicle is leaking water, there doesn’t appear to be any regulations against it. But if it leaking anything other than water, such as oil or grease, it could be cited for an infraction, said Jaime Rios, public information officer for the California Highway Patrol Hollister-Gilroy office.
The CHP has responded to incidents of trucks leaking on the nearby Highway 129 going to Watsonville but hasn’t had any complaints or followed up on anything like this on Highway 25, Rios said.
The California Vehicle Code, section 23114(a) states that “a vehicle shall not be driven or moved on any highway unless the vehicle is so constructed, covered, or loaded as to prevent any of its contents or load other than clear water or feathers from live birds from dropping, sifting, leaking, blowing, spilling, or otherwise escaping from the vehicle.”
If you notice anything other than a chicken truck or vehicle leaking water, you can report it by calling 848-2324.
Phone books are a waste of paper
“Red Phone, it seems several times a year unwanted phone books show up on our doorstep. How can we tell the publishers we do not want them? Is there a number to call? It sure is a huge waste of paper and other resources to produce and distribute these books to people that don’t even ask for them. Something should be done.”
Red Phone: Dear Something Should be Done, Red Phone has received several questions regarding these phone books, including one last summer. There is something you can do. On the second page are instructions on how to order more or cancel the ones you now receive. Call 1-866-329-7118 or go to www.mydirectories.att.com. Follow the instructions near the bottom of the page.
Red Phone still finds the books useful, but really doesn’t need a new one every few months. Once a year is fine.
Hope that answers your question, good caller.
