As President Barack Obama will address the nation tonight in his State of the Union address, President George Shirakawa of the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors delivered his State of the County address 2012 this afternoon.
Working with the theme “Building our future together” Shirakawa spoke of the more than two billion dollars of cuts to the county after a decade, saying the 2012-13 budget will be no different and that the current state of the County is challenging.
“The tough decisions we have to make impact our employees, their families, and the community,” he said.
Shirakawa cited several commitments for the upcoming year that he will serve in his leadership position: including commitments to public safety, seniors’ agendas, at-risk youth, education and vital community services.
“There will be much to do in 2012 as we work our way toward prosperity and better days. There is still a tough road ahead, but the economy is showing signs of a slow but steady recovery,” Shirakawa said. “We can achieve success by focusing on the sun beginning to peek over the horizon.”
