It looks like I survived the holidays and I’m sitting here with a cherubic smile on my face—definitely more cherubic looking than before the holidays.

<

Yeah, I had a pretty good holiday season and like any good holiday season it included good food—an excess of good food.

<

We also had plenty of local wine while dining with our friends. After dinner, while they pondered dessert, I would usually look about for a local port. Calories are calories, right?

<

So, I had plenty of local help getting the cherub look. I acquired these chubby cheeks and the smile while rarely avoiding the true definition of gluttony in our wonderful dining establishments, old and new, across the town during the holidays.

<

I frequently highlight our local dining options and I can’t help but do it a little more after spending so much time dining with friends recently.

<

First, I want to thank all of our existing restaurants that are the backbone of the rapidly growing dining scene in Morgan Hill. We don’t just have numerous restaurants; we have good restaurants. This is why people are coming from out of the area to dine here.

<

Some of those establishments are changing and one has been a local landmark for decades: Sinaloa Café. I haven’t been in since the new owners took over so maybe you can give it a try for me and let me know how it goes.

<

The Hill is also now under new ownership and can’t wait to try it out. I hear that the new owners are not changing anything dramatically but they are open more hours so I’ll be heading in for lunch soon to have a look around.

<

I have been to the newest restaurant in town a couple times now and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my visits. I recently mentioned the new restaurant, Prova (used to be Slims), and wanted to tell you a little bit about it.

<

This restaurant is owned in part by the man who brought us Odeum and wanted to try something a little different.

<

Prova focuses on “small plates” which are ideally suited for sharing with others. You can try several items in one meal and there are many you’ll want to try. There are also several entrees that would be considered a full sized meal for one, but can still be shared if a knife is brought into play to divvy up the goods.

<

The small plates concept was intended to make the meals more social where the interaction created by sharing food with your friends or family members is as much a part of the experience as the fine foods. You should give this one a try with others.

<

Lastly I wanted to mention that we have a new place for early morning coffee and munchies. The Coffee Guys just opened next to OrangeTheory Fitness in the front of the Downtown Parking Garage. My routine typically includes spending time at GVA Café but I should be able to find a little spare time to enjoy the Coffee Guys and the plaza right outside.

<

Looking into the mirror, I think this will be my last food oriented column for a while. Maybe I’ll try writing about riding my bicycle next time.
