Johne Baird, a lifelong resident of Morgan Hill, passed away, surrounded by family and friends at the age of 54. Born June 5, 1962, he was a 5th generation cattle rancher and part of the family’s Tilton Ranch Inc. in Madrone. Graduating from Live Oak High School in 1981, he began farming hay and working for the family ranch right out of high school and continued ranching throughout his life.
For the past ten years he was employed by Young’s Market in Morgan Hill. Johne was very charismatic and a people person. He was always willing to help out a friend and loved getting together for BBQ’s and talking about the ranch. A favorite pastime was reading, especially old westerns.
He was very active in many local organizations including; Vice-President of the Santa Clara; County Farm Bureau; Young Farmers and Ranchers; President of SCC Cattlemen’s Association; MH Lions Club and board member of SCC Open Space Authority. Johne is survived by his beloved son Steven Baird, mother Barbara Baird, sisters Sally Miller, Joann Baird and Janet Burback, all of Morgan Hill, and three nieces and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his Father Harold Baird and Brother Alvin Baird. He will be greatly missed by his son, family and friends. Burial will be private with a Celebration of Life at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to SCC Cattlewomen Scholarship Fund, 19665 Hale Ave, Morgan Hill, CA 95037.
