Justin Sanders allowed just one run on Friday, but Acorns couldn’t get the offense going in a 1-0 defeat to Leland.
Sanders baffled Leland, striking out seven batters and allowed no earned runs on five hits and two walks over six innings.
Jake Dermer got the win for Leland, tossing six innings of shutout ball. He struck out three, walked four and surrendered four hits.
Leland pushed across its only run of the day in the second inning on an RBI double by Chris Kim.
He came up with two on and one out, ripping the double down the left field line for the only run of the day.
Live Oak caught a break on the play as Ryan McCahan was thrown out trying to score from first on the play.
Leland opened the inning when Albert Hsiao and Dominic Flocchini both reached on errors along the left side of the infield.
Hsiao was picked off at second before McCahan singled setting up runners on first and second for Kim.
That was the best opportunity of the day until the fourth inning when Hsaio and Flocchini were on third and second, respectively, after a walk and a single.
Sanders got out of the inning by striking out the side.
Meanwhile, Live Oak had chances all day, but couldn’t get a run across.
Chris Knopf doubled to lead off the second and went to third on a sac bunt from Michael Ibara, but was thrown out attempting to steal home.
The Acorns overall stranded six runners in scoring position and came up empty with runners on third twice.
In the fourth inning, Knopf led off by being hit by a pitch followed by Ibara walking. PJ Rochon then reached safely on an error to load the bases.
But in a stroke of bad luck, Rochon was doubled off at first when Damon Rodriguez lined out to second and Live Oak was retired with a ground ball to second.
Rochon later doubled to keep hope alive in the sixth, but was unable to score.
Live Oak ended the game with a trio of fly balls to the outfield.
The Acorns will next host Leigh 4 p.m. March 23.
