A Chevrolet Tahoe sport-utility parked in the driveway of an east Morgan Hill home caught fire, causing minor damage to the exterior of the house.
Santa Clara County fire engines responded to a call for a structure fire about 3:26 p.m. Thursday on the 16800 block of Cabernet Court, according to battalion Chief Daron Pisciotta.
The initial investigation showed the vehicle caught on fire first. The flames spread to the front of the garage which was less than three feet from the vehicle.
The homeowner arrived home a few minutes before the car caught on fire, and Pisciotta said it is unknown what caused the vehicle to burn.
“The most important thing is they knocked down the fire before it extended into the house,” Pisciotta said.
One engine and one fire truck responded and were able to douse the fire before it spread, Pisciotta said. Damage was limited to eaves above the garage door.
A “rough estimate” of the damage to the car and home is about $8,000 to $10,000, according to Pisciotta.
Before any fire department equipment arrived, two Morgan Hill Police officers arrived at the fire and attempted to douse the flames with a garden hose, Pisciotta said.
No injuries were reported.
