SWIMMING: Bulldogs heading into ST Finals after first dual-meet loss

MORGAN HILL — In its first Mount Hamilton Division meet at home this year, the Live Oak girl’s swimming team came away with a split Thursday at Live Oak High School, edging Leigh 90-88 and falling to Santa Teresa, 125-57.

Live Oak’s boy’s team lost 109-75 to Leigh and 125-85 to Santa Teresa.

The Lady Acorns won three events, with Katie Rick sacking the 100-yard freestyle and 100-breaststroke. Freshman teammate Michelle Mikaelsson took first in the 200-individual medley. Live Oak also received a pair of second-place finishes by Sarah D’Angelo in the 200- and 50-free.

Rick, Mikaelsson and D’Angelo also were part of the 200-medley and freestyle relays that took second.

Steven Rick, brother of Katie, led Live Oak’s boy’s squad with victories in the 200-IM and 100-breast. He also anchored the 200-free relay that placed second.

Jason Vantrood won the 1-meter dive, and Cody Coleman finished second in the 50-free, also for the Acorns.
