Morgan Hill Unified School District already cut $3 million from its budget this year, and is looking at upwards of $2 million more, based on state budget numbers. Next year will be worse, with an expected $3.3 million in cuts.

The district will talk about possibilities that have been mere whispers: closing a school, losing class size reduction, cutting programs and more layoffs.

“It’s not just a presentation, it’s supposed to be an open exchange,” Board President Don Moody said. “We will be soliciting input from the community.”

Moody said he hoped the discussion didn’t turn into a forum of “don’t cut my (insert program).”

Moody said the meetings are the district’s “effort to be more transparent.”

“We’d like the community to feel somewhat involved, and get some buy-in to what our decisions are,” he said, noting that the meeting is open to everyone in Morgan Hill, including district employees.

Cards will be available for attendees to write their questions.
