Third Street Promenade’s tiles are damaged and in need of repair. The city hopes the original contractor will pay to fix the street that cost the city $3.6 million about four years ago.

Dear Red Phone, “I was downtown Morgan Hill Friday night and the Third Street promenade looks terrible. The pavers, I think that’s an ongoing problem, and maybe that’s getting fixed, but the lawn is full of weeds and not getting mowed at Jesus. There’s trash in front of the restaurant when you sit outside. I guess they don’t feel responsible for it. There’s trash all along the way, dead flower pots. It’s just looking sad. What’s going on? Thanks a lot.”

Red Phone: Dear concerned resident,

Yes, it’s sad and the city, which spent millions making it a showcase, is guilty of not keeping the street up. Hopefully, this will spur the spruce up process. But, if not, Red Phone’s happy to take it to the next level.

Stray shopping carts in Walmart parking lot, continued:

Dear Red Phone, “Thank you so much for the wonderful, wonderful response in (last Friday’s) paper, April 5, on the shopping cart issue at Walmart. That was a wonderful response and you are spot on.”

Red Phone: Dear reader, thank you for your feedback. We hope dialogue from our Red Phone in the last two issues, regarding the dozens of stray shopping carts that get left out in the Walmart parking lot and others around town, will encourage people to take those extra few steps and just put their cats away. A little common courtesy can go a long way.
