Dorothy A. Howell (formerly, Dorothy Ann Farotto), niece of George and Angie Martin, owners of Martin’s Hardware Store in the 1930-50, died peacefully on July 15th surrounded by her family. She was 91. A funeral Mass will be held for her at San Carlos Cathedral, 500 Church Street, Monterey, CA 93940 on August 24th at 9:30 A.M. followed by a reception in the Parish Hall across the street.
 Mrs. Howell was the first of twelve children born to Richard and Ann Farotto. Her grandfather Lorenzo Farotto, his wife and five children, Vincent, Richard, Grant, Milo and Carmen emigrated from Italy in the late 1800’s, settling in Gilroy.
 As a young girl, Mrs. Howell went to live with her Grandmother, Aunt and Uncle in Gilroy. She attended the Gilroy Grammar School and High School.
 She married Harold K. Howell, a young Army officer, in 1942 at St Mary’s Church.
 Mrs. Howell is survived by her two sons, Bill and Kim Howell, their wives, Cathy and Carol, her grandchildren, Michael and Matthew and her two great-grandchildren, Parker and Joseph.
