Mayor shouldn’t be involved in phone calls on behalf of the library mail ballot tax
Dear Editor,
Mayor’s misuse of political phone calling privileges. The mayor of Morgan hill has facilitated “secret”’ phone calls to residents, urging us to vote for Measure A.
Here’s what wrong with the way these phone calls were implemented:
1. Measure A is a Santa Clara County issue, not a Morgan Hill issue – not a Morgan Hill business, so the mayor should have gotten his opinion across via the Morgan Hill Times, not by misusing the political phone calling privileges.
2. The call had no caller ID or phone number, other political calls seem to labeled POL CALL.
3. The voice mail was made by a private Morgan Hill citizen without any identification of how or why she was using political calling privileges. I am in favor of Measure A but not in the misuse of political phone calling

Many thanks for the facelift work done at reinvigorated Learning and Loving Center
Dear Editor,
A little over a month ago, the newly reinvigorated United Way South County initiated a project to paint the interior of the Learning and Loving Center. We naively assumed that it would take two or three half-day sessions to complete, and of course we underestimated and understaffed the effort.
The project was completed by month end and Center Director Christa Hanson and her staff are delighted with the results.
We learned some valuable lessons and the one that perhaps tops the list is the power of partnerships. There are so many caring and supportive individuals and organizations in South County that step forward when asked to lend a hand to a deserving cause and we were so fortunate to easily get the support needed to complete a high quality project. Everyone we asked came through willingly. Thanks and much appreciation goes to:
• Johnson Lumber/ACE Hardware supplied all the paint and supplies at their cost.
• Molina Technical Plumbing Repair installed a needed sink and discovered/repaired several failing pipes.
• Victory Outreach supplied the muscle and energy needed to move furniture and complete preparation.
• The El Toro Youth Center sent youth and parent volunteers to supplement painters to complete the job.
• Chuck White of Chuck White painting painted all 24 doors and 10 door jams over a single weekend at the end of July.
• Firato Janitorial cleaned the carpets as a final touch in getting the Center reopened for the new schedule of classes.

General Plan Christmas: Roof leaks, plumbing broken and Dad just lost his job
Dear Editor,
I have written several concerns about the City’s General Plan Process. Let me clarify. On a recent City meeting announcement it says, “What should Morgan Hill be like in 2035? We want to hear from you!” It is all well and good. But it’s like mom asking you want to you want for Christmas without telling you that by the way the refrigerator is broke, the roof leaks and dad lost his job. Under those circumstances your Christmas begins to look a lot different.
And in 2035, Morgan Hill will be under a number of constraints and challenges and that means our approach to Christmas or our General Plan in 2035 should also be different. However, to date the meetings that have been scheduled have not discussed those challenges.
The information gathered so far is meaningless. It’s a disconnect from reality. In 1950 when land was plentiful and there was room to grow, this approach could work but not today.
We have far greater challenges of sustainability in the next 20 years than any time in our past, and yet we have chosen the poorest approach to plan.

Obama ‘ravaging the middle class’ and continually damaging our economy
Dear Editor,
Few American presidents have done more to hurt the economy, ravage the middle class and create a people dependent upon government than Barack Obama, with help from Democrats in Congress.
Under Obama, America has endured its worst economic recovery in the past six decades. In the past five years, while the employment age population has increased by nearly 12 million people, there are now three million fewer Americans working (down to 143.3 million last December from 146.3 million in January 2008).
During the past five years, real median household income has declined nearly 9 percent from $54,489 at the end of 2007 to $50,020 at the beginning of 2012. It’s been 62 months since the recession began and there has been almost no recovery. Typically, deep recessions are followed by robust recoveries.
Obamacare is having a massive negative impact on hiring (more than 40 percent of small-business owners say it has caused them to freeze hiring, according to a June Gallup poll.) Family health care costs, which he promised would decline by $2,500 per year, have risen by $3,000.
Obama and his anti-growth Democrats are destroying America one business and one job at a time and harassing his political foes with IRS audits. He apparently thinks working people are his enemies.
